Electroless Nickel
Mid Phos 6% – 9%
Electroless Nickel plating is a nickel phosphorus alloy deposit plated by chemical reduction, without applying an external electrical current, onto a suitable substrate. Electroless Nickel provides very uniform, hard, lubricious coatings. The deposit uniformity allows plating of various coating thicknesses on any section of a part exposed to fresh plating solution. Grooves, slots, blind holes, threads, and even the inside of tubing can have the same thickness of coating. As a direct result of the deposit uniformity many post-plate finishing steps such as grinding, can be eliminated, thus lowering overall costs.
- General Functional Properties:
- Corrosion Resistance
- Wear Resistance
- Hardness 40 RC
- Lubricity
- Solderability and bondability
- Uniformity of deposit regardless of geometries
- Nonmagnetic properties of high phosphorous alloy
Electroless Nickel plating can be covered by the following specifications:
- Deposition on Metals for Engineering Use
- ASTM B733, Standard Specification for Autocatalytic Nickel-Phosphorus Coatings on Metal (Replaces MIL-C-26074) Bake @375 4 hours for up to 70 RC hardness for Hydrogen Embitterment
- AMS 2404C, Electroless Nickel Plating (Replaces MIL-C-26074)
- ASTM B656, Standard Guide for Autocatalytic Nickel-Phosphorus
Excellent application for:
- Cylinders
- Slides
- Pistons
- Shafts
- Stampings
- Core Pins
- Couplings
- Molds
